It was in the process through convergence and had it been successful, would have came to the same conclusion as the first maker and put an end to the Hive Mind created. In dead space 2, that marker is also man made and the Hive Mind had not been created yet. Therefore making anything it can influence.want to return the marker back and stop the false Hive Mind.

What happened though is the marker did not create the Hive mind in it's truest form, because the marker is man made…therefore the Hive mind created was not the original Hive mind and was considered untrue, and so the marker decided to end it. the difference is that convergence on Aegis VII already happened during the first incident on Aegis VII many many years before ds1. I think the ultimate purpose is convergence and to recreate the hive mind. So how come these two markers have different goals? In short I think they don't In Dead Space 2 the marker wanted convergence, presumably to recreate the hive mind, which I assume is the ultimate living form of the marker…when you fight Nicole in ds2 ending battle, she mentions “he wants to be reborn” or something along those lines several times… Doing so, made the necromorphs and Hive mind docile and for all intents and purposes dead. There's a text log that you receive in NG+ of a conversation between Nicole and the Marker shortly before her suicide that goes into this.In Dead Space 1, “make us whole again” meant to bring the marker back to its pedestal and stop the outbreak. Nicole tells him the pedestal will amplify the Marker's power, making it so that "the dead will sleep" (the Hive Mind/Necromorphs will calm down) and that "the living will see what can't be forgotten" (Isaac's mind will be imprinted with the Marker). If you notice during the last chapter, Isaac asks Nicole why she's having him place the Marker on the pedestal. The red beam shooting into the sky is the Marker setting off the pulse that imprints that information in Isaac's mind.Įssentially in the remake the Marker and the Hive Mind are kind of not on the same page, in that the Marker is smarter and wants to use Isaac to propagate itself whereas the Hive Mind is just doing what it's supposed to be doing and trying to kill everything until the Marker is on the pedestal to give it orders. The Marker wants to give Isaac the necessary blueprints and knowledge of how to build another Marker. The Hive Mind is basically an animal with no motivation but to consume everything.
